Temporary residence card for foreign children in Vietnam

More and more Vietnamese citizens get married to foreigners. The children are born with foreign nationality. Therefore, when a child has a Vietnamese parent but the child is a foreign national who wants to reside in Vietnam, a temporary residence card issued by the Immigration Department of the province or central city is required. That child is of residence level.

1. Conditions for applying for a temporary residence card for a foreign child: 

– Passport of foreigners with a minimum term of 13 months
– Visas being used in Vietnam must be for the correct purpose
– Have a birth certificate or other documents proving that one parent is currently a Vietnamese citizen
– A foreigner has one parent who currently has Vietnam Temporary Resident Card. 
2. The validity period of temporary residence card for children whose parent is Vietnamese does not exceed 03 years.

3. Application file for the extension of temporary residence card for foreign children with Vietnamese parents

– A birth certificate or other documents proving that the parent is currently a Vietnamese citizen;
– Application for guarantee and issuance of temporary residence card for foreigners (Form NA7);
– Application form for temporary residence card for foreigners (Form NA8);
– Passport and original visa (passport valid for at least 13 months and visa to enter Vietnam for the right purpose);
– 02 2cmx3cm photos;
– A notarized copy of the Vietnamese household registration book of Vietnamese mother or father;
– A notarized copy of the ID card of a parent who is a Vietnamese citizen.
4. Order and procedures for extending temporary residence cards for children with Vietnamese parents

Step 1: Prepare 01 set of the above documents.
Step 2: Submit to Vietnam Immigration office.
Apply at the office of Immigration Department – Ministry of Public Security: 44-46 Tran Phu, Ba Dinh, Hanoi; 254 Nguyen Trai, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City; 7 Tran Quy Cap, Da Nang City.
The officer receiving the dossier to check the legality and content of the dossier: If it is complete and valid, then receive the dossier, print it and give a receipt, make an appointment to return the results. If the dossier is not valid, the dossier-receiving officer shall guide the applicant to supplement the dossier for completeness.
Step 3: Get results.
The person who comes to receive the results shall give a receipt to the officer who returns the results of the examination and comparison. If there is the result of the extension of temporary residence, the person who comes to receive the result of fee payment and sign for receipt.
